Piper Plastics Building In Arizona
Yangzhou Chengsen Plastics Co.,Ltd | Updated: Jun 14, 2018

Injection molder and compounder Piper Plastics Inc. plans to invest $10 million to build a 90,000-square-foot plant in Mesa, Ariz.

Libertyville, Ill.-based Piper announced the project June 6, according to a local media report. Officials with Piper could not be reached for comment.

The report said that construction will begin in July, with operations launching in June 2019. The site will employ 130 initially, growing to 175 in three years.

Piper was acquired in early 2016 by plastic shapes maker Quadrant Group of Switzerland, which itself is owned by Japanese firm Mitsubishi Plastics Inc. Piper President Randy White said in the report that Mitsubishi chose to build in Mesa because of the area's "growing skilled and young workforce, ideal climate, and excellent infrastructure in support of manufacturing business."

Piper operates plants in Libertyville; Chandler, Ariz., which is about 10 miles from Mesa; and Rayong, Thailand. Its markets include medical, semiconductor, aerospace and food packaging. The firm also does computer numerically controlled machining work.
